Because I shoot several different ‘genres’ of photography, a commonly asked question is ‘What is your favorite thing to shoot’? It’s a tough question…kind of like being asked if you have a favorite child. The truth is for each type of photography I shoot they are ALL favorite for different reasons.  I suppose I wouldn’t do any given type of I did not love it! So although that evades the question a bit what I can say is that I do have a particular draw to maternity. I suppose it stems from my own 3 pregnancies…at the time(s) that I was having my children, fine art photography wasn’t as popular and instead we were left to either taking photos ourself or heading to the mall (eekk). When I look back at my own maternity photos they lack the emotion that I was feeling in those moments…the joy that I was carrying. I feel like I wasn’t able to capture that energy that was flowing through me and I love that I now get to provide that to other women. I’m also drawn to the concept of the ‘circle of life’ and how magnificent it truly is that our bodies can not just sustain but create life. I’m blown away by it. I love being a part of self discovery for a women as they transition into motherhood…all of the empowerment and strength that it provides to us. I love getting to document the bodies ability to stretch and grow as life literally builds within it. I love the shapes, I love the curves…I kind of love it all.

This is Gina…Gina is a brand new mommy expecting a baby girl. She was quite literally glowing for her session. Who woudn’t love THIS?

I rarely post anything on my blog that is personal, but I’ve been hearing more and more from many of you that you are enjoying the mix between my professional and personal projects.. You can follow more of both on Instragram here: http://www.instagram.com/reneemariephotography

In keeping with your feedback and Mother’s Day falling over the weekend I figured it was the perfect time to introduce you to my family and tell you a litte more about ME! I’m a happily married wife to my husband of 19 years (weve been together for 24…gasp); a mother to 3 gorgeous kids that range in age from 15, ,12 and 8; and the proud owner of this incredible photography business that I established in 2013. My prior career found me in quite an unexpected departure from this form of art and I was instead working a very high demmanding, travel heavy role in Silicone Valley for a leading internet marketplace company. I occupied various roles in leadership over the span of 15 years and while the pay was great and the titles impressive I was eventually found feeling very unfulfilled in my place. In that 15 year span I had been married and welcomed 3 kids and while I was happy I was STRESSED out. I went from being really great at 1 thing to pretty good at a lot of things but that was not going to cut it where my kids and family were concerned.

I had always had interest in photography and studied it briefly in college when I entertained the idea of getting involved in journalism as a career. Fast forward past my internship at my college newspaper and the local city paper and I quickly decided I needed my art (whether written or otherwise) to be my own and not an assignment. The concept of creating has always been a part of my story but I never would have invisioned this path if I am being honest.

Fast forward to 2003 and the birth of my first son. I purchased my first DSLR to take better photos of him but also made regular visits to The Picture People for ‘portraits’. Add a few kids to the mix and enter social media…aka Faccebook…where I could post photos of my growing family and all of our advdentures. I started to get some feedback on my photos and comments around ‘having an eye’ for capturing and composition. Hmmmm…. Now enter the curiosity of how I could transition a hobby into a career (isn’t that the dream), a ton of research, a lot of practice and finally a business plan that I wrote myself (that was the easy part in light of my existing job responsibilities). I volunteered to shoot for free for friends and family, started making connections with industry people and eventually worked up the nerve to create my first website.

I officially launched Renee Marie Photography in 2013 and simultaneously quit my job on January 3! I’ve now rounded out my 5th full year in business and am proud to say that I have helped to capture hundreds of amazing moments and milestones from maternity, birth, newborn, family, senior portraits to weddings and events.  I continue to be in awe of the abundance of blessings that this business has brought me.  I’ve created some of best friendships through clients that I never would have known in my previous life. I’ve been a part of people’s best days and shared their joy and triumph. I’m overwhelmed with what this role has GIVEN to me and so grateful that I get to give back in the form of photos.

So condensed but to the point, that is a bit of my story and how I came to be a photographer. And here is that beautiful family that inspired me to create and allows me to feel full on a daily basis:

First there was me:

Then came WE:Then we added ONE:And TWO:And Finally THREE:And TOGETHER we create a FAMILY!

Do you want to know what all of these families have in common? Aside from being gorgeous to look at, well dressed and completely in love with one another they also have something not so obvious that ties them. Each and every one of these  clients (and this is just a recent handful that are not archived yet) have come to me through my referral network. So they know someone that is already a Renee Marie Photography client who referred them directly to me for their own session. How amazing is the power of word of mouth? I can honestly say that for 5 years I have exclusively run my business off of your referrals and I could not be more thankful. As a small business owner, it means the world that people love your product enough to share it! And because my ‘product’ is art it has a certain sentimental value that makes it even more unique since it is not mass produced and every session is unique.

In thanks for your continued support and referrals, I wanted to put together a ‘thank you’ that shows my gratitude and also helps YOU out for your next session with me! For any client referred that books a full session with me in 2018, I will apply a $50 referral credit good towards your next full session with me! Know a client that wants a mini…we want to reward for that too and all mini session referrals that book will yield a $25 credit off your next session! Credits can be stacked and there is no limit to how many you receive. So tell a friend…tell lots of friends and let’s save you some cash and also give others the opportunity to capture their own stories with me.

Your support of me as an artist and GIRL BOSS (aspiring retiree) is appreciated beyond measure!

Spring has sprung and it’s been such a pleasant change to be outside in some warm weather with beautiful lush greenery, golden light and of course gorgeous families! I love nothing more than these sessions that we spend together just playing, laughing and loving. Ask any of my clients…there is very little that is posed when you work with me. Of course we look for pretty locations and pockets of light but when it comes to ‘showtime’ it’s really just me suggesting you run around, play some games, tell some jokes and I get to hang out and watch all the fun unfold. Being a mom of 3 myself, hanging out with you and your kids comes natural for me… most of my clients go from first time to ‘regular’ so the children really get to know me over time and this erases any ‘awkwardness’ just because I happen to have a camera with me. I’m certain I’ve never said ‘say cheese’ and the smiles we get are always genuine and never forced. I love getting to freeze frame these fleeting moments for all of you…because time truly does pass so quickly.  The chubby cheeks thin out, the whispy hair thickens and the tiny toes grow.  They get ‘too big’ to swoop up into the air and tickle endlessly. So don’t put off what you love so dearly right now and want to remember forever.

I adore this particular family and have had the honor and joy of watching theirfamily grow over the past several years. This is my favorite of all our sessions to date. I aim for each session to leave me with that same feeling…
